What Does Tae Kwon Do Mean?
- Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art.
- "Tae" means 'to kick or smash with the foot'
- "Kwon" means 'to strike or punch with the hand'
- "Do" means 'method or way'
- In short Tae Kwon Do is the "Art of kicking and striking".

When was the Clemson Tae Kwon Do Club founded?
- The Clemson Tae Kwon Do Club was founded in 1967 by Master Billy Hong.
Through the years it has been passed from one instructor to the other.
The club has been fortunate and the instructors of the club have all come
from Master William Huggins (one of the original students of Master Hong).
Master Huggins was once a student and instructor at the Clemson Tae Kwon
Do Club. Due to this continuity the club has been able to keep a unique
identity and has benefited greatly from the relationship it has with Master
Huggins.

What should I expect to learn?
- The goal of the Clemson Tae Kwon Do Club is to offer you a well balanced
view of the Korean Martial Art. Our goal it to expose to you the many
facets of Tae Kwon Do ranging from its dynamic kicking techniques, fundamental
punching and striking techniques, and lastly but not least -- the aspects
of self defense. We aim to teach you a well rounded view of Tae Kwon Do..

Do I need any prior martial art experience before joining the club?
- No experience is required. Our club is open to all skill levels ranging
from beginner to advanced. Our members range from all skill levels from
beginning white belt to high ranking black belts. In fact we have many
members who started our club with no prior martial arts experience and
in the end receive their black belts. Experience is not necessary at all.

What do I need to do, if I would like to try a class out?
- There is nothing special that you need to do. Just come to class prepared
to learn and we will help you out as best as possible. If you are a beginner,
we will try to pair a high ranking student to work with you to cover the
basics. If you have prior martial arts experience, you can just work out
with us like normal.

If I would like to try out a class -- what should I wear?
- We recommend that you wear loose comfortable clothing such as sweat
pants or any type of warm up clothing. Wear a comfortable T-Shirt. Please
do not wear any jewelry. Due to the activity their is a good chance that
the jewelry may become damaged.

Does the Tae Kwon Do Club compete in competitions?
- The club does participate in local, regional, and national competitions.
We primarily compete at USTU/WTF style tournaments. Competition is not
required for club members but it is an available option. For individuals
interested in competition, we usually supplement the normal training with
extra classes to prepare for tournaments.
